Win Streak Stretches to Five Games

Oct 23, 2016

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX – It was another successful weekend in Brahmaland as the Brahmas swept the Topeka RoadRunners in the two-game series.

Friday night, Lone Star used a solid offensive night to propel them past the ‘Runners. Hunter Stanley needed just three minutes to score his third straight goal for the Brahmas.  Topeka would tie the game before the period’s end as Nigel Nelson scored his first NAHL goal on a hobbling puck to the far post.

David Marabella recaptured the lead in the second period on a cross-ice sauce from Justin Addamo and then the Brahmas got a first of their own.  Just under ten minutes into the third period, Addamo came up the right wing and threw a hard shot on net.  Rookie Frank Trazzera cleaned up the trash at the top of the crease to give the Brahmas a 3-1 lead.  The goal was Trazzera’s first of his NAHL career.

Drake Glover scored the final goal of the night and Alec Calvaruso finished with 12 saves in the 4-1 win.

The second night was a different story, as the Brahmas needed a shootout to win. Glover and Marcus Russell scored in regulation time and the overtime period was intense.  In the final seconds of the 3-on-3 overtime, Simon Loof took a one-time shot between the circles, but the clock expired a few tenths of a second before the puck went in.

In the shootout period, Alex Frye gave Topeka a 1-0 lead with an incredible backhand forehand move. After two Brahma shooters missed and with pressure on, Erik Gordon stopped the potential game-winning shootout goal against Max Harper.  Austin Kamer scored the NAHL’s Top Goal of the Week with a filthy backhand drag at the goal line to keep hopes alive.  In round four, Peter Kessel ripped a puck over the glove side of Ryan Snowden to win 2-1 (2-1 SO).

Following the win, Erik Gordon was named the South Division Second Star of the Week after stopping 23 of 24 in regulation time and three of four shootout attempts to keep his perfect record (5-0-0) in tact.

The Brahmas (10-2-1) take on the Odessa Jackalopes (7-6-0) on the road for three straight games.
