Weekend Wrap: Brahmas Keep Home Wins Rolling

Nov 15, 2017

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX — Another weekend at home, another sweep. The Brahmas continued their dominance on home ice this weekend, as they dispatched the Amarillo Bulls in both games and took an edge in the season series.

Friday night was one of the strongest overall peformances of the year from the Brahmas, as the team played a tight defensive game and was able to capitalize on their offensive chances.

Both of the Brahmas’ goals came in the third period. Ture Linden and Julian Biondo were responsible for the first tally on the scoreboard, as Biondo neatly picked up a Bulls turnover and fed Linden in front of the net.

Linden looked to pass back to Biondo, but ended up banking the puck off Bulls goaltender Alexei Masanko’s pad and into the net for what would end up the game-winning goal.

The Brahmas’ insurance goal came courtesy of Michael Montambault, who cleaned up a Linden rebound after a good pass by Austin Bottrell

The 2-0 score would stand, and goaltender Mitchell Gibson picked up his fourth shutout of the season in yet another stellar start.

As is customary after a shutout, Head Coach Dan Wildfong sent Gibson back out for the Saturday night start.

Amarillo got off to a 1-0 lead thanks to a power play goal in the first, but the Brahmas scored the equalizer early in the second.

Julian Biondo found defenseman Connor Stuart streaking up the right win, and Stuart took the shot, scoring his first goal of the season.

The Bulls went ahead again when they scored shorthanded late in the period, but it was defenseman Ryan Orgel to the rescue. After an Austin Bottrell shot was blocked, the puck rolled out to an empty space. Orgel pounced on it, getting off a shot that found the back of the net and tied the game.

Throughout the third period, it looked like the Brahmas and Bulls were destined to go to overtime. Then, with under two minutes remaining, Biondo dished a puck to Orgel, who had been left completely uncovered by Amarillo. Orgel had plenty of time to pick his spot — and he did. Snipe, celly, sweep.

For all of the highlights this weekend — and there were quite a few — the best of them may have come from Austin O’Rourke. The Brahmas veteran and noted entertainer literally paused in the middle of a scrum to take a selfie with a fan.

The Brahmas hit the road this weekend to take on Corpus Christi for the second time this season. It will be the two teams’ first meeting at the American Bank Center, as the previous series was during the Brahmas’ home opening weekend.

Puck drop in Corpus Christi will be at 7:05 PM on both nights. If you aren’t making the trip down south, games will be streamed live on Hockey TV. Make sure to follow along and keep up with Brahmas news by keeping an eye on our Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat accounts!
