Weekend Wrap: Brahmas Finish Alaska Trip With 5 Points

Jan 29, 2018

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX — In their first visit to Alaska as a junior team, the Brahmas finished the trip with a respectable five of eight possible points.

After picking up a point in overtime in Fairbanks against the NAHL’s best team, the Brahmas went into Kenai with higher expectations of themselves. As it happened, they delivered, completing a road sweep to finish up the Alaska roadie.

Friday night got off to a suboptimal start with the Brahmas going down two goals in the first ten minutes of play. That prompted a goalie change, and the Brahmas responded by buckling down.

Before the period was up, the Brahmas struck twice to tie the game. The first was a power play goal courtesy of Steven Ipri, the second from the stick of Jon Russell — and just like that, it was a brand new hockey game.

With all the momentum on their side, Justin Addamo and Steven Ipri scored in the second period for a 4-2 Brahmas lead. Kenai River would go on to score once in the third period, but the Brahmas’ four goals would stand for the win.

The next night yielded another four-goal performance from the Brahmas, and like the previous game, that was enough for the boys to walk away with a regulation win.

Two goals in the first period (from Frank Trazzera and Connor Stuart) gave the Brahmas a lead that the didn’t relinquish. Stuart’s goal would end up being the game-winner, but Steven Ipri and Aidan Spellacy each scored in the second period to pad the lead.

With those two wins in Kenai River and an overtime loss in their second game in Fairbanks, the Brahmas are riding a three-game point streak that they’ll be looking to build on this Monday and Tuesday in Topeka.
