Weekend Preview: Martin Luther King Jr. Day Super Weekend

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX – The Brahmas look to continue their momentum as they welcome the Corpus Christi IceRays to town for the first time this regular season and then host the Wichita Falls Wildcats on Monday afternoon.

THE ICERAYS: The IceRays came to North Richland Hills back on September 15th for their only pre-season tilt and took one from the Brahmas by a score of 2-1.

Since the games started counting, the IceRays haven’t had as strong of a success but still find themselves very much so in the playoff hunt.  A 14-16-3 record places them at fourth in the south but the team is coming off of the wrong side of a sweep against the Wichita Falls Wildcats.

Scoring has been the issue for the team from the beach.  74 goals in 33 games ranks fourth from last in the league, however goaltender Graham Hunt has kept his gang in a plethora of games.  Despite not having much goal support he’s 3-1 in his last four starts including a shutout.

THE WILDCATS: The best team in the North American Hockey League continues to roll, taking their last four in a row.  However, Monday afternoon’s contest is guaranteed to be a good one because the last time the two teams met, the Brahmas swept the ‘Cats in a three game set in their home rink.

17-year-old phenom Adam Goodsir is coming off of earning South Divison Player of the Week honors and has six points during the win streak.

Justin Kapelmaster will likely be in net for the tilt and with good reason.  Leading the NAHL in wins with 20 and ranking in the top tier in all other goaltender categories, Kapelmaster is 4-0-1 at NYTEX this season.

THE BRAHMAS: It’s no secret Brahmaland as a whole is riding on an emotional high after a sweep over Odessa last weekend including a five-goal third period comeback on Friday.

Newcomers Johan Lundgren and Tyler Drevitch both scored in their first game at NYTEX and this weekend will be a chance to see if latest addition Jakob Romo can find a similar fate.  Romo was acquired last week, reported on Tuesday, and is expected to jump right in.  Fans can expect him to bring NAHL experience (140 games) and some body banging at a thick 5’9” – 180 lbs.

Corbin Kaczperski has been the hot hand in net, currently riding a seven game win streak.  During the same stretch, he’s been given 34 goals of support from the offense, making things that much easier for him.

PROMOTIONS: Bring the young bucks out on Friday as it’s Youth Jersey Giveaway Night!  On Saturday, it’s Game Night!  Enjoy a plethora of classic games in the lobby and prepare to enjoy a show!

Monday afternoon is Operation Kindness Day!  The area’s top no-kill shelter will be bringing some furry friends to the rink and you’ll have the chance to adopt them!

TICKETS: Seating for Friday and Saturday is running low!  Grab your tickets while you can at 817-336-4ICE, atop your screen under the TICKETS tab, or swing by the NYTEX Sports Centre box office.
