Weekend Preview: Brahmas vs. Jackalopes

Oct 27, 2017

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX — The Brahmas are beginning to hit a groove. It was only a matter of time, but the past two weekends have done quite a bit to build the team’s confidence after a shaky start.

Back-to-back sweeps of the Jackalopes and the IceRays have catapulted the Brahmas up the standings from fourth to second, but this week’s match-up against the third place Jackalopes will be key.

After getting swept at Ector County Coliseum by Lone Star, the Jacks are coming off a sweep of their own. They dispatched Topeka in all three games they played last weekend, largely thanks to two strong appearances from goaltender Alex Camarre and a well-balanced offensive attack.

The Brahmas will certainly be keeping an eye on forwards Evan Rochowiak and Evan Somoza. On the blue line, veteran defenseman Zac Herrmann leads the Jackalopes in points (3-11–14). He also leads all NAHL defensemen, so he’ll be one to watch this weekend.

Still, the Brahmas are feeling good heading into this series. Historically, they do very well against Odessa, and they started the season series off with that sweep two weekends ago.

Another thing to consider? The Brahmas are finally hitting their offensive stride. They scored nine goals in their home opener, including four on the power play and one shorthanded.

With so many new players within the past few weeks, some line shuffling has been necessary — and it’s paid off for Lone Star. The newly formed top line of Austin O’Rourke, Ture Linden, and Austin Bottrell looked very good, and early returns on the Chase Pletzke-Aidan Spellacy-Julian Biondo line are promising as well.

On the back end, Connor Stuart and Ryan Orgel have both made offensive contributions in addition to stabilizing the defensive corps.

And as always when the Brahmas and Jackalopes face off, look for some chippiness this weekend as the rivals go head-to-head in a charged environment at NYTEX Sports Centre.

Puck drop on both days will be at 7:30 PM. Remember to wear your purple hats in honor of longtime usher and Brahmas family member Jim Hudson on Friday night, and come dressed in your best Halloween looks on Saturday!
