Two LSB alums make NCAA commitments

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TEXAS. — The Lone Star Brahmas are pleased to announce the commitments of two Lone Star Brahmas alumni to NCAA Division III men’s hockey programs. 

Will Stromp

Stromp is heading to De Pere, Wis. to suit up for the St. Norbert College Green Knights. The forward played 51 games with the Brahmas during the 2017-18 and 2019-20 seasons, tallying 28 points (7g-21a). Stromp recorded five multi-point games during the 2019-20 year, recording a career-high six points (3g-3a) against the Odessa Jackalopes on Jan. 3. He joins six other Brahma alumni in donning the Green Knights jersey, including Peter Bates (2015-16), T.J. Black (2013-15), Austin Smith (2016-17), Roman Uchyn (2013-15) and Storm Wahlrab (2014-15). Stromp is a native of Plano, Texas. 

St. Norbert College men’s hockey is a member of the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA). The Green Knights won the NCHA league playoffs and Harris Cup four times (2014, 2017, 2018, 2019) in the last eight years. 

Evan Googins

Googins will spend his collegiate years playing for the Norwich University Cadets in Northfield, Vt. After arriving in North Richland Hills from the Aberdeen Wings, the forward found his stride, recording 19 points (14g-5a) in only 31 games played. Googins ranked within the top-ten skaters on the Brahmas in game-winning goals (4), powerplay goals (5) and shot percentage (25.5%). The skater will be the first Brahma alum to play for the Cadets but joins two other NAHL players from the 2019-20 season in committing to Norwich University. Googins is from Braintree, Mass. 

Norwich University men’s hockey is a member of the New England Hockey Conference (NEHC), a group including members such as Johnson & Wales University, Plymouth State University, and the University of Massachusetts – Boston. The Cadets have won 14 NEHC championships, the most out of any member. 

Both St. Norbert College and Norwich University have postponed conference men’s ice hockey play until 2021.
