Top Prospects Profile: Troy York

Feb 15, 2017

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX — As the top team in the NAHL South Division, the Lone Star Brahmas are sending five players — four forwards and one defenseman — to Team South and two players to the NAHL Selects.

Troy York will be one of the Brahmas’ representatives at the tournament. He, along with his linemates Carson Kelley and Hunter Stanley, will be playing for Team South.

That built-in chemistry with Kelley and Stanley will no doubt come in handy at the tournament, where players often have to get used to brand new linemates in a limited amount of time. That won’t be a problem for York and his linemates, as they’ve played together for nearly the entire season.

“It’s always an honor to go and represent your team there,” York said. “I’m just looking to perform well and show some scouts what I can do.”

There will be scouts aplenty in Plymouth for the Top Prospects tournament, including NCAA and NHL scouts. York has had a very good season with the Brahmas up to this point. With 34 points (20 goals, 14 assists) in 38 games played, York ranks third on the team in points per game.

He is also second on the team in goals scored, trailing only Pete Kessel. (York has 20 on the season, Kessel has 22.)

In addition, if there’s such thing as a clutch factor, York has it. He leads the team in game-winning goals with seven on the season — good enough to share the league lead with Johnstown’s Dalton Hunter.

Brahmas Head Coach Dan Wildfong will be coaching Team South and is looking forward to seeing what York has to offer during the tournament.

“Obviously I want him to accomplish a Division I scholarship,” Wildfong said, “He’s proven that he can score in this league, and I think he can score at the next level.”

York has indeed proven himself to be one of the Brahmas’ most dynamic scorers, and Wildfong made it clear that he thinks highly of York’s offensive abilities. “I think his shot is lethal,” Wildfong said, “And he can go east-west in a hurry. His hockey sense is pretty good, too.”

These skills will all be on display as York takes the ice with Team South for two games during the Top Prospects Tournament. Team South will play Monday, February 27 at 6:00 PM CST and Tuesday, February 28 at 1:00 PM CST. All games will be available to stream on Hockey TV.
