The Force is with the Brahmas

Saturday night saw the Lone Star Brahmas complete the home portion of the season series with the Wichita Falls Wildcats. The Wildcats had secured the fourth and final playoff spot in the NAHL South with their shootout win on Friday, but the Brahmas still had something to play for setting only two points behind Corpus Christi in the standings.

Wichita Falls broke through on the power play at 16:34 of the first with a Tyler Ledford (Sam Piazza, Alfred Johnson) power play goal.

At 5:33 of the second the Brahmas got back to even as Michael Crowley (Austin Thielges, Derek Barach) punched in a loose puck that got behind David Zevnick.

TJ Black and Zevnick shut down the offenses through the third period and overtime with some very strong play in net, leading to the second shootout in as many nights.

Rudy Junda started the shootout for the Wildcats and put them up one. Liam Stirtzinger pulled the good guys even in the third round and then Thomas Aldworth picked the top corner in the fifth round to send the Brahmas pouring off the bench in celebration.

Depending on the outcome of the Corpus Christi Icerays and Kenai River Brown Bears contest, the Brahmas win could pull them into a tie for fifth in the NAHL South Division with the Icerays. The Icerays and Brown Bears were tied at 1 – 1 midway through the third at the time this recap was written.
