Showcase Preview

Sep 20, 2016

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX – The Lone Star Brahmas are on the road to Blaine, Minnesota for the four day Showcase event at the Schwan Super Rink.  The Brahmas enter the tournament with a 1-0-0 record and 26 skaters.

Last season, the Brahmas finished tied for third place at the event with an overall record of 3-0-1.  The one Lone Star loss came to the eventual Robertson Cup Champions, the Fairbanks Ice Dogs, in a 1-0 shootout final.  The Brahmas arguably have a tougher schedule this year as they will face the Bismarck Bobcats, Minot Minotauros, Coulee Region Chill, and Austin Bruins.

The reigning Central Division Champion Bobcats (1-0-0) are first up for the Brahmas on the schedule.  Like the Brahmas, Bismarck also scored seven goals in their season opening win.  Former Wichita Falls Wildcat forward Parker Mismash has a team high two goals entering the Showcase. The puck officially drops Wednesday evening at 5:15 p.m.

Based on last year’s statistics, the combined record of the four Showcase opponents were 134-91-15 (.590 win percentage).

The event will close on Saturday afternoon with a rematch of the 2015 Robertson Cup Semi-Final series and it will be a chance for redemption against the Austin Bruins.

After the first game, Troy York (3) and Drake Glover (3) lead the team in goals, while Austin Kamer (4) has the most assists and points on the season.  Goaltender Alec Calvaruso is currently first in the NAHL with a .962 save percentage a 1.00 goals against average.  He stopped 25 of 26 shots in his first NAHL game last week.

All 48 Showcase games will be broadcasted in High Definition on FastHockey.com.  Last season, over 350 NCAA and NHL scouts were present at one of the biggest junior hockey events of the year.
