Series preview: Brahmas look to pick up points against Amarillo

Oct 30, 2020

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TEXAS — The Lone Star Brahmas head northwest this weekend to face off against the Amarillo Bulls in a two-game series. After splitting the regular season-opening weekend against the New Mexico IceWolves, the Brahmas are looking to rebound.

After dropping the first game of the season Lone Star fought back with a vengeance, scoring four goals in the first period, scored by Nicholas Niemo, Zach Purcell, Mitchell Digby and T.J. Koufis. The goals marked the first in the NAHL for Niemo and Purcell and the first goal as a Brahma for Koufis.

“It’s been high tempo just learning all the systems to be ready for Amarillo,” said veteran forward Dylan Smith. “The feeling for this weekend is going into Amarillo ready to steal four points and play hard and simple hockey.”

While the team ended the weekend on a high note, the squad knows they need to continue to improve outside of games to make an impact in the competitive South division.

“We had a better second game against New Mexico, but we still needed to clean up our mistakes in practice,” said Jack Collins. “We have a game plan headed into this weekend and we are definitely ready.”

During the 2019-20 season, the Brahmas went 1-5 against the Bulls, adding to a 39-31 overall record since the Brahmas entered the North American Hockey League in 2013.

“The intensity has been cranked up,” added forward Andrew DeCarlo. “We’ve definitely been putting sweat in the bucket.”
