Playoff Preview: Brahmas vs. Wildcats

Apr 19, 2017

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX — So far, the Brahmas have done exactly what they need to do. They have capitalized on Wichita Falls’ mistakes, made very few of their own, and finished the first weekend of the postseason with a 2-0 series lead over the Wildcats.

Now, they head to Wichita Falls to play Game 3 on Wildcat turf with a sweep in their sights. Should the series require a Game 4, it will be played in Wichita Falls on Saturday night.

However, the Brahmas are looking for their third straight win of the playoffs — and their eleventh straight win against the Wildcats dating back to the regular season.

After a strong weekend from Max Prawdzik, it’s likely that the Brahmas will start Alec Calvaruso in net. Both goaltenders have been strong this year for Lone Star. That plays heavily in the team’s favor, as they can play with confidence in front of whoever is in the crease on any given night.

In any case, the Brahmas should come out of the gate with plenty of energy, especially after the game they had this past Saturday. Their offense exploded for seven goals, with seven different Brahmas finding the back of the net. Julian Biondo, Pete Kessel, Drake Glover, Carson Kelley, Austin O’Rourke, Austin Kamer, and Aidan Spellacy were the goal-scorers.

Kessel and Spellacy currently lead the Brahmas in scoring with two goals and two assists each. Ten other Brahmas have registered at least one point, which speaks to one of the team’s strengths: their well-roundedness.

Lone Star will look to keep that offensive contribution from up and down the lineup going as they head to Wichita Falls. The team has won seven of their last eight games, unlike the Wildcats, who are currently in a twelve-game slide that dates back to mid-March.

The Brahmas and Wildcats drop the puck at 7:05 PM on Friday night and Saturday night if necessary.
