Playoff Preview: Brahmas vs. IceRays

Apr 26, 2017

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX — After a convincing sweep of the Wichita Falls Wildcats, the Brahmas will face the Corpus Christi IceRays in the South Division Final.

For their part, the IceRays also completed a sweep in their first round matchup. They dispatched the second-seeded Shreveport Mudbugs in three games, largely on the strength of goaltender Tomáš Vomáčka.

Vomáčka posted a 21-save shutout in Game 1, then made 45 saves the following game in a 5-3 win and a 37 saves in a 2-1 OT series-clinching victory.

In terms of offense, Brad Power and Nathan Bryer lead the IceRays with two goals each. Mason Krueger and Larry Jungwirth each registered a goal and two assists and share the scoring lead with three points.

The Brahmas’ series went in a similar fashion. Max Prawdzik’s performance in the Lone Star crease was impressive, as was the Brahmas’ team defense.

The Brahmas were dominant in their two home games, with a 3-0 shutout to open the postseason, and a resounding 7-3 victory in Game 2. The following week, they pulled off a thrilling 4-3 OT win to close out the series in Wichita Falls.

Brahmas regular season leading scorer Carson Kelley also leads the team in postseason points, with three goals and an assists in three games.

As it happens, Kelley also leads the Brahmas in points against the IceRays. Along with wingers Troy York and Hunter Stanley, Kelley has put up a strong showing against Corpus Christi. That line has combined for 22 points against the IceRays during the regular season and will be looking to add more in the playoffs.

While the Brahmas posted a 7-4-0 record against the IceRays this season, two of those wins came past regulation — one in overtime and one in a shootout. This series should be a good, physical, and fun-to-watch affair for fans, so make sure to come out to a game, a watch party, or follow along at home.

Games 1 and 2 will be on April 28 and 29 at the NYTEX Sports Centre. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 PM on both nights.

Game 3 (and Game 4 if necessary) will be played at Dr. Pepper StarCenter McKinney on May 2 and 3. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:15 PM. Tickets for these games will be available on the day of the event. They may also be purchased by calling the IceRays box office at (361) 814-7825 or emailing tickets@goicerays.com.
