NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX – The Lone Star Brahmas have agreed to trade goaltender Conor O’Brien to the Fairbanks Ice Dogs for a 2017 tender contract.
The second year Brahma was on the injury reserve since October 9 and was traded right before he was eligible to be activated. Through 27 games with Lone Star, O’Brien held a 13-8-5 record with two shutouts, an .887 save percentage and a 2.50 goals against average.
Through his first ten games in the NAHL, the Clearwater, Florida native did not lose a game in regulation. Entering the 2016-17 season, the Brahmas knew after training camp that they would have to make a tough decision with three strong goalies on the roster.
With OB out, Alec Calvaruso and Erik Gordon stepped up and led the Brahmas to a 12-1-0 record since the veteran’s upper body injury, forcing the coaching staff to make a move.
The Brahmas gain another tender contract, allowing them to sign a future player to an NAHL contract prior to next season.
The Ice Dogs are the reigning Robertson Cup Champions and could use the help in net. Both Fairbanks netminders have losing records and allow on average nearly three goals a night. O’Brien’s new team is currently fourth in the Midwest with a 7-9-3 record.
O’Brien could see his first game on November 18th when the Ice Dogs host the Janesville Jets at the Big Dipper.
