College commitment: Niemo commits to Bentley University

Nov 19, 2020

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TEXAS — Brahmas forward Nicholas Niemo has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey at Bentley University, the player announced Wednesday.

“It’s a dream come true,” said Niemo, regarding his commitment. “I can’t thank all of the people in my corner enough for the support and guidance they have shown me to get to this point. Wouldn’t be in a situation like this without them!”

The skater currently leads the 2020-21 Lone Star squad in goals scored (5) and points (10) in only six games played. Niemo has appeared in all contests played by the Brahmas in the season thus far. The forward most recently was named the November 16 North American Hockey League Bauer South Division Star of the Week after his performance in the sweep against the Amarillo Bulls. A dominant offensive force, Niemo currently ranks second amongst all players in the NAHL with 12 points so far this season.

“Nick has earned this terrific academic and athletic achievement through a combination of hard work and perseverance,” said assistant coach of the Brahmas, Andrew Whiteside. “We are extremely proud of him and his accomplishments so far in the season.”

Niemo is the third Brahma to commit to Bentley, with alums Alexey Solovyev (2013-15) and Vilho Saariluoma (2018-19) being the first and second skaters to attend and play for the university. Before the cancellation of the 2019-20 men’s hockey season, Bentley recorded a record of 17-16-3 (W-L-OTL).

Nicholas Niemo is the first NCAA commitment from the Brahmas current roster. In the 2019-20 season, the Lone Star Brahmas led the NAHL in player commitments with 16.
