Lone Star Brahmas forward Nick Ford is part of the team’s contingent of Chicago area players. The 6’ 0” – 185 pound 18 year old has spent the past two seasons playing in Canada, most recently with the CCHL Cumberland Grads.
After putting up 50 points in 28 games with the CIHA Voyageurs Midget AAA during the 2012/13 season, Ford was the 15th overall selection in the 2013 CCHL Entry Draft by the Ottawa Jr. Senators. After 38 games in Ottawa he was traded to Cumberland. “I had a feeling I was going to get traded,” said Ford. “I was on a much older team and they were making a run for the playoffs so I ended up getting traded for a 93 birth year. The change of teams was quite different. I went from an older team to being on a much younger team.” With the mid season change of scenery he managed 20 points in 58 CCHL games.
Ford caught the eye of the Brahmas’ coaching staff at the teams Chicago Pre-Draft camp earning a 6th round selection by the team in the 2014 NAHL Entry Draft. Following the camp Ford knew that he was on the Brahmas Draft Board and had several discussions with Head Coach Dan Wildfong. He said that Wildfong passed along a lot of information on the team, league and the DFW Metroplex.
