Just Hold On, We're Going Home

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – The Brahmas defensemen provided a majority of the offense for the second straight night as the team left winners over the Corpus Christi IceRays by a score of 4-2 on Saturday.

Reigning North American Hockey League Defenseman of the Month Dalton Skelly tallied the first goal of the night on the power play for the Brahmas, establishing a lead at the 5:22 mark.  Bud Madej was credited with an assist on the goal and that wouldn’t be his only point of the period.  Three and a half minutes later #18 cranked one from the point, similar to his lethal position of Friday, beating Graham Hunt to make things 2-0.

The power play continued to roll and before the first buzzer sounded Cam Clarke received a beautiful feed from Tomas Brejcha, driving it past the IceRays goaltender to give his team a three goal lead before break.

Second period scoring got underway when Swedish wingers Martin Mellberg and Johan Lundgren hooked up for a nifty back-door slam-dunk.  The goal was Lundgren’s fourth as a Brahma.

That would be the end of the night for Hunt, who was replaced after allowing four goals on 14 shots.  Dryden McKay changed the momentum for his team posting a perfect 14/14 the rest of the way.

Prior to the conclusion of the middle period, Drake Lindsay scored Corpus Christi’s only power play tally of the night.  The IceRays had nine chances with the man advantage but Lindsay’s tenth of the season would be the lone successful strike.

Just one other goal was added before the final horn and it was ‘Rays defenseman Colton Meekhof beating Conor O’Brien with a wrister from the point after an Alex Berardinelli turnover.

O’Brien’s win is his 11th of the season and fourth in his last five starts.

The team now returns to North Richland Hills where some players will then have another travel day on Monday to head to the North American Hockey League Top Prospects Tournament.  Others will await the Odessa Jackalopes who come to NYTEX next Friday and Saturday for Ladies Night Out and Western Heritage Night.  Tickets are going fast so be sure to claim yours today by calling 817-336-4ICE, atop your screen under the TICKETS tab or at the NYTEX Sports Centre box office this week.
