In Memoriam: Tyler Amburgey

Aug 31, 2020

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TEXAS — In loving memory of Fort Worth Brahmas alumnus Tyler Amburgey, it is with a heavy heart that we announce his passing on August 30, 2020. Tyler was a native of Rowlett, Texas. He was 29 years old.

Tyler was an avid and decorated hockey player, suiting up for several teams across the United States during his playing career. After being selected third overall in the United States Hockey League Draft, he skated for the Tri-City Storm and Dubuque Fighting Saints, who he won a Clark Cup with in 2011. Tyler then played in the Central Hockey League with the Quad City Mallards before joining the Fort Worth Brahmas in 2013, where he played two regular season and seven playoff games, recording an assist.

“We want to extend our deepest condolences to the Amburgey family,” said Head Coach of the Lone Star and Fort Worth Brahmas, Dan Wildfong. “It’s a sad day in the hockey world when you lose someone like Tyler. We wish the best for his family.”

The defenseman never lost his love for the game, leaving the NAHL to play 81 games in the Southern Professional Hockey League for the Peoria Rivermen, Pensacola Ice Flyers and Louisiana IceGators before announcing his retirement from playing hockey in 2016.

Tyler couldn’t stay away from the rink after hanging up his skates. He served as a youth hockey coach for the Dallas Junior Hockey Association, Dallas Stars Elite Hockey Club and the Head Coach for the Texas Warriors 16UAA team. Tyler’s wisdom touched many lives in the Dallas-Fort Worth youth hockey community.

Tyler is survived by his wife, Aimee, and daughter, Rylee. Details for funeral service arrangements are forthcoming. A memorial fund has been set up in Tyler’s honor, which you can find here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/tyler-amburgey-memorial-fund
