IceRays 4 – Brahmas 2

Sep 29, 2013

The Brahmas took to the ice Saturday night with Assistant Coach Jeff Potter driving the herd for the second game of this series. The Brahmas came out strong and ready. After even, but aggressive play the first half of the period, the Brahmas Paul Fregeau scored the first goal of the game with assists from Michael Crowley and Anthony Mousseau. Crowley was acquired earlier in the week in a trade from the Soo Eagles. The Brahmas goal was scored at the 10:05 mark of the period on a Brahmas power play. The rest of the period saw even play from both teams with Corpus Christi tying the game with 1:19 left in the period. The IceRays goal was scored by Eric Pucell with assists by Grant Hutton and Maurin Mouvet.

Just 1:02 into the second period, after series of shots from the IceRays, Grant Hutton scores with an assist from Eric Purcell taking the lead. Corpus Christi controlled the puck for much of the period, taking 20 shots against Brahmas goaltender Sean Keating before the buzzer. IceRays defense limited the Brahmas to 7 shots on goal for the period.

The third period began much like the second with Tony Roisum scoring for the home team assited by Lucas Bennet and Jesse Shelton just 24 seconds in. Facing a two point deficit, the Brahmas refused to quit, but the IceRays still maintained control, keeping the Brahmas on the defense for much of the period. With just under 2 minutes in the game, the Brahmas pulled Keating in lieu of a full offensive. The plan succeeded with a goal from Todd Koritzinsky with 35 seconds to go. The assists went to Donovan Gardiner and AJ Duggan. Continuing to leave their goal unattended and pressing to tie the game, the Brahmas lost the puck to IceRays Martin Hojbjerg who raced it down the ice for an uncontested goal to seal the game for the Ice Rays. Final score: IceRays 4, Brahmas 2.

After back-to-back defeats in Corpus Christi, the Brahmas’ record stands 1-6-1. They will come home for a few days to regroup and recover, but won’t get to rest for long. They’ll be heading back on the road to face the Topeka Roadrunners on Thursday and Friday. Both games begin at 7:15pm and will be shown inside ZuRoma Bar & Grill as well as fasthockey.com.
