Heartbreaker

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX – The Brahmas had their hearts ripped out with under a second left in overtime, falling to the Corpus Christi IceRays by a score of 2-1.

Carson Kelley kicked off the scoring with an absolutely dazzling move, undressing IceRays defensemen Tucker Bender and deking netminder Dryden McKay to give the home side an early 1-0 lead.  The goal was the 7th of the season for the California native.

Corbin Kaczperski and his opposition, McKay, stole the show in the second, both during aside double digit shots in the period alone.  Both goaltenders had to fight through three short-handed chances as well, thus making their performances that much more impressive.

Corpus Christi evened the score late in the third when Steve Bryant came streaking off of his bench and received a feed at the point and snuck it through traffic and a screened Kaczperski.  The goal came at the 14:05 mark of the frame and the score remained tied until both teams headed to a sudden-death overtime.

In the overtime the IceRays picked up a brief power play when Alex Berardinelli took a tripping minor just 47 seconds in.  Corpus Christi was unsuccessful with the man advantage, however then coincidental minors occurred to the IceRays bench and Dalton Skelly for delay of game and a rough.  With under a second left in the extra frame, Tobias Kircher picked up the puck in his attacking zone and beat Corbin Kaczperski with under a second to go.

“Kaz” suffers the overtime loss, thus advancing his record to 22-6-2.  The Yale commit stopped 27 of 29.

The team will now use the following days to rest and recover before departing to Amarillo later in the week.  While at the Civic Center the team will play two games to start their road trip, which is followed by a trip to Odessa.  Following that the team returns home for Autism Awareness and Fan Appreciation Night on April 8 & 9.  Tickets are available for those games atop your screen under TICKETS, over the phone at 817-336-4ICE, or at the box office.
