Allen Americans to Face Tulsa Oilers in ECHL Rivalry on October 13th! 

North Richland Hills, TX – The Allen Americans and Tulsa Oilers will renew their ECHL rivalry on Friday, October 13th with a pre-season matchup at NYTEX Sports Centre. The game is part of the Americans’ preparations for the 2023-24 home opener weekend, and is intended to expose more area fans to more teams and leagues operating in the North Texas region. 

The Americans and Oilers have been meeting in the ECHL since 2009, and the rivalry has only grown more intense in recent years. The two teams have met in the playoffs four times, with the Americans winning each series. 

The popularity of hockey has been rapidly expanding in Texas for many decades. Development leagues and teams like the Allen Americans and Tulsa Oilers are affiliated with both NHL teams and AHL teams. The Americans are the ECHL affiliate of the NHL Ottawa Senators, whereas the Oilers are the ECHL affiliate of the NHL Anaheim Ducks. Similarly, the Americans are also the AHL affiliate of the Belleville Senators, and the Oilers are affiliates of the AHL San Diego Gulls. 

Home of the Lone Star Brahmas of the North American Hockey League, NYTEX Sports Centre is a state-of-the-art arena located in North Richland Hills, TX. Conveniently located in the DFW mid-cities, the facility features the main arena, which seats 2,500 fans for hockey, an additional second sheet of hockey ice in the west rink, an olympic hall, plus a variety of amenities, including a full-service restaurant, pro shop, summer camp, volleyball, on-site Cryotherapy, and a party deck which overlooks the main arena ice.

The Allen Americans are a professional ice hockey team based in Allen, Texas. The team competes in the ECHL, the primary developmental league for the National Hockey League (NHL). The Americans were founded in 2009 and have won two ECHL championships. The team’s home arena is Allen Events Center.

The Tulsa Oilers are a professional ice hockey team based in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The team competes in the ECHL, the primary developmental league for the National Hockey League (NHL). The Oilers were founded in 1992 and have won one ECHL championship. The team’s home arena is BOK Center. 

About the ECHL 

Beginning in 1988-89 with five teams in four states, the ECHL has grown into a coast-to-coast league with 27 teams in 20 states and two Canadian provinces for its 34th season in 2021-22. There have been more than 700 players who have gone on to play in the National Hockey League after starting their careers in the ECHL. The ECHL has affiliations with 27 of the 32 NHL teams in 2023-24, marking the 26th consecutive season that the league had affiliations with at least 20 teams in the NHL. NYTEX Sports Centre is a 2,500-seat multi-purpose sports facility located in North Richland Hills, Texas.
