Jan 29, 2019

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX — The Lone Star Brahmas are pleased to announce that rookie defenseman Scott Persson has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey at Niagara University.

Persson attended Brahmas Main Camp as a free agent and impressed the coaches right away. He played his way into training camp and subsequently onto the roster and has been one of the Brahmas’ most effective defenseman this season.

The 5-foot-11, 175-pound Swede is a smooth skater with significant offensive upside. In 31 games this season, he has registered three goals and 13 assists. Persson is also a key player for the Brahmas’ power play, with his deft puck-handling and pinpoint passing skill coming in handy.

As a 2000 birth year, Persson won’t be headed to school quite yet, but he is looking forward to his college career.

“What made me choose Niagara was the family atmosphere and the unbelievable coaching staff,” Persson said. “I’m excited to play for Coach Lammers and at a higher level.”

Persson also gave credit to the Brahmas organization in helping him reach his goal of committing to a Division I program.  “Lone Star and Coach Wildfong have really helped me grow as a player so far this year and I’m very thankful for all my teammates and the whole coaching staff,” he said.

Persson becomes the seventh player and the third defenseman currently on the Brahmas roster to commit to a Division I program.

He will be junior-eligible for two more years, but for now he is focused on the season at hand as the Brahmas look to make a push and gain momentum heading into the Robertson Cup Playoffs.
