College Commitment: Smith commits to UW-Stevens Point

Jun 28, 2021

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TEXAS — Brahmas defenseman Brady Smith has committed to play NCAA Division III hockey at University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

“I am extremely excited to join the Stevens Point hockey family,” said Smith, regarding his commitment. “I am thankful for my time at Colorado College and the last six months with Lone Star. This fresh start for me would not be possible without the support and guidance of the Lone Star coaching staff, ownership, and front office. I appreciate all they have given me throughout my time in Texas. Lastly, a huge thank you to my family and teammates, they have supported me throughout this unique season and I’m truly grateful for all they have done. I’m thrilled to become a Pointer and I will always be a Brahma. Thank you Brahmaland!”

After joining the Brahmas midway through the 2020-21 season, Smith quickly found his spot in the lineup, playing 30 games on the blueline. Totalling 11 points (2g-9a) and a +4 rating, the skater matched previous point production from his USHL season with the Sioux City Musketeers, but with less games needed. Smith has also suited up for Colorado College (NCAA), the Madison Capitols, Central Illinois Flying Aces and Bloomington Thunder of the USH, as well as the Chicago Mission (NAPHL).

“Brady came to us this season with a year of college hockey under his belt,” said assistant coach of the Brahmas, Andrew Whiteside. “He continued to improve by the day and eventually inserted himself as one of the top defenseman in our lineup. Brady’s work ethic both on and off the ice were unparalleled – which is why he had such a strong finish to his season. We would like to congratulate Brady on his commitment to Wisconsin-Stevens Point and wish him the best of luck moving forward in his career!”

Smith is the second Brahma to commit to the Stevens Point program, with alum Ryan Orgel (2017-18) also donning the Pointer sweater.

Smith is the 25th player from the 2020-21 Brahmas roster to enter NCAA hockey play next season.
