Clarke Named Defenseman Of The Month

Mar 3, 2016

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX – The North American Hockey League announced it’s monthly awards on Thursday and Brahmas defenseman Cam Clarke has been named Defenseman of the Month yet again.

Cam recorded two goals and seven assists during nine games in the calendar month and helped the team post a 7-2 record.

“I wasn’t really expecting it this month but it feels good to be recognized,” the Ferris State commit said.  “Obviously the team’s been doing well and has had a really good month so that’s just as important.”

#15 is currently in the midst of a six game point streak, including a three-assist weekend against the Topeka RoadRunners.

“He just has an ability to see things that others at this level just can’t see.  I think it equates to the next level too, which is why he’s gaining interest from the NHL,” Brahmas head coach Dan Wildfong said of the Michigan native.  “Even from the beginning of the year to now he’s just made so much progress it’s unbelievable.”

Assist coach Jeff Potter preaches his defensemen getting pucks through from the point and Clarke has done just that.  In the calendar month, he averaged just under four shots on goal per game.

“We don’t give up a lot and it’s cause our D can make plays, especially breaking out of the zone.  What can I say, Jeff did a really good job of recruiting these guys.”

Clarke now becomes a two-time winner of the award as he took home the honors back during the month of November as well.  Last month, Dalton Skelly was given the award.  The Brahmas are the only team to have multiple winners of the award this season.

“I’ve been able to play at this level because of the position I was put in.  Dan and Jeff have had a lot of confidence in me and played me a lot right away.  Once I got that confidence that I can play at this level it just came easy to me.”

The next chance for Brahmas and NAHL fans to check out the outstanding defensemen is Friday and Saturday, March 11 and 12 as the team hosts the Odessa Jackalopes at home.  Tickets for the game are available over the phone at 817-336-4ICE, atop your screen under TICKETS or at the NYTEX Sports Centre box office.
