Cam Clarke Commits to Ferris State

Oct 20, 2015

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX – It did not take long for the Lone Star Brahmas to secure its first collegiate commitment of the year. Defenseman Cameron Clarke announced that he will attend Ferris State University in the fall of 2016.

“I’m excited to be a part of a program that Ferris has,” Cam Clarke said. “They’ve been to the National Title game in the past few years and I’m excited to be a part of a winning program close to home.”

In just two seasons competing in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA), Ferris State has a 62-percent win percentage and a first place finish in the conference. Clarke, a native of Tecumseh, Michigan, saw Ferris State as the right fit given he lives less than 200 miles away from the university’s campus.

After turning some heads with his crisp passing ability and all-around strong play at the NAHL Showcase this past September, it was only a matter of time before Clarke secured a college commitment.

“As a Michigan kid, you always dream of playing college hockey in Michigan and Ferris gives me the perfect opportunity to play right away and make an impact,” Clarke stated. “Being close to home, so many of my friends and family can watch (me play) and Ferris’ great coaching staff around Coach Daniels made it an easy decision.”

Head Coach Bob Daniels is getting a big boost on the blue line with the addition of Clarke. Through nine games this season, the 6-foot-2, 180-pound skater leads the Brahmas defensemen with six assists and he is tied for the team lead with three power play assists. He has three multi-point games so far heading into the second half of October.

Last season, Clarke was seen as an offensive defenseman in the GOJHL playing for the Sarnia Legionnaires, tallying 12 goals and 40 points in 61 games. During the 2013-14 season, he was nearly a point-per-game player in the NAPHL with the West Michigan Hounds 18U team.

The reliable righty has already seen action in all game situations and he is a go-to skater on special teams. Clarke will be the first Brahmas to join the Crimson and Gold of Ferris State.

Clarke joins three fellow Brahmas (Joey Fallon, Brandon Estes, and Kyle Patava) who were already committed to NCAA DI programs before arriving in North Richland Hills.
