We are saddened to learn of the passing of a friend and former Brahma great, Brian Caruso. Brian played for the Fort Worth Fire for two seasons and for the Fort Worth Brahmas during their inaugural 1997-98 season.
He was a team leader and an integral part of the Brahmas winning the WPHL’s Governor’s Cup that year for having the most points in the regular season. Caruso also holds the distinction of being the first NHL draft pick to sign with the Brahmas. He was selected 63rd overall in the 1991 NHL Draft by the Calgary Flames.
After retiring from hockey, Caruso settled down in the Fort Worth area. NYTEX Sports and Brahmas Hockey President Frank Trazzera remembers Caruso very fondly. “Brian was just a good guy with a passion for growing the youth game. He was one of the first of the former pro Brahmas to come coach for the Junior Brahmas,” Trazzera said. “Always pleasant, always willing to help and he always had something positive to teach the Brahmas kids. He will be missed.”
He will also go down in NYTEX history as the Head Coach for the first Junior Brahmas Championship with the 2006-07 Pee Wee squad.
Before the Brahmas, he was a four-year letterman at the University of Minnesota-Duluth and spent a season in the ECHL / AHL.
