NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX — This weekend’s two-game series against Odessa wasn’t quite the start that the Brahmas hoped for as they kicked off a seven-game road stretch.
FRIDAY (6-3 LOSS)
This game was a frustrating one for the Brahmas, who held the lead two separate times but ended up letting it slip both times, eventually suffering a 6-3 loss.
Forward Andrew DeCarlo put Lone Star up 1-0 early in the first period with his second goal in as many games, but the Brahmas surrendered the equalizer just seconds later. Odessa then took the lead with a Kellen Tharaldson goal, but Blake Evennou scored on a power play late in the period to bring the score back to 2-2.
A Vilho Saariluoma goal early in the second game the Brahmas a 3-2 lead, but that dissipated with two Odessa goals later in the frame to make it 4-3. The Brahmas wouldn’t score again, and with two goals in the third period — one on an empty net — the Jackalopes emerged with a 6-3 victory.
This game bears the dubious distinction of having all four goaltenders — both from each team — see action. The Brahmas’ Seth Eisele started the game before Harrison Feeney relieved him late in the first period. Eisele would later re-enter the game in the third period.
On the Jackalopes’ side, goaltender Cade Phipps suffered a lower body injury midway through the game and was replaced by Alex Camarre. Camarre was perfect in relief, making 20 saves.
Former Jackalope Eric Huss made his Brahmas debut.
SATURDAY (4-0 LOSS)
The Brahmas’ afternoon game woes continued on Saturday. In three prior afternoon games — all at the NAHL Showcase — the Brahmas have scored three total goals. They were shut out by Alex Camarre and the Jackalopes on Saturday.
Odessa forward Kyle Herbster factored into every Jackalopes goal, scoring two goals (including the eventual game-winner) and registering assists on the other two goals. Camarre made 26 saves in the win.
Newly-acquired forward Joey Baez made his Brahmas debut.
UP NEXT
The Brahmas head back out on the road to take on the South Division-leading Amarillo Bulls. The games are Friday and Saturday, and puck drop both nights is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
