Brahmas Spoil Johnstown's Perfect Run

Sep 27, 2015

BLAINE, MN – The Johnstown Tomahawks came into today’s contest with a perfect 3-0 record at the NAHL Showcase and with a win could have potentially seen them selected as the tournament champion.  However, the Brahmas had other ideas.

Not even halfway through the first period Kyle Patava peeled off the far-side faceoff spot and watched his precisely aimed shot glide by Jacob Gwillim to make things 1-0.  Around the five-minute mark the Tomahawks tied it up but that’s when a young man who has former ties to the Johnstown organization, Peter Bates continued his impressive showcase putting the Brahmas ahead by one.  Not many moments later, Martin Mellberg created a turnover in front of the Tomahawks net, which was slammed home by Tomas Brejcha.

The Tomahawks scored the only goal of the second but in the third the Brahmas offense was able to convert again.  Bates became the first member of the team to have a two-goal game after a quick feed from Dalton Skelly on a 5-on-3.

Johnstown had no choice but to pull their goalie late in the third and the extra attacker proved to no help, as Hogan Davidson was able to cash in on the empty net.  The Tomahawks would score a weird one with just 43 seconds remaining but it was rather meaningless, as the Brahmas would walk away with a 5-3 victory.

Lone Star wrapped up the NAHL Showcase with a 3-0-1 record, improving their overall to 4-0-1.  The team will now travel back to NYTEX before taking on Topeka next weekend.

It’s not too late to get tickets for the team’s home opener, which is now less than two weeks against the Amarillo Bulls on Friday, October 9th.  Call 817-336-4ICE or visit the TICKETS tab.
