Brahmas Select 2022-23 Captains!

Oct 8, 2022

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS—

Coaches Dan Wildfong and Ryan Anderson have selected captains for the 2022-2023 season. A group of four young men will now don the letters of leadership on their chests as captains for the Lone Star Brahmas. Those selected to wear the alternate captain A are Bauer Swift, Ryan Prewitt, and Jesse Kirkby. Swift and Prewitt are in their second year with the organization. Swift and Prewitt make up two of the four returning defensemen for the Brahmas this season. Both of these men were instrumental in the Brahmas success last season, helping the franchise obtain the best overall regular season record in the league, a feat that had not been achieved since the very first season the Brahmas took the ice back in 1998.

Jesse Kirkby is in his first year as a Brahma. The 6’2” forward comes from North Bay, Ontario, Canada. Last season he was the leading scorer with the Pembrooke Lumber Kings tallying 64 points in just 53 games.

Wearing the captain’s C this season will be none other than Mason Mara. Mara hails from the Sunshine State (Florida). While Mason’s first taste of Brahmas hockey watching his older brother Parker play for the NA3HL Texas Brahmas, Mara played several games alongside his brother before Parker skated for the Texas Brahmas. A story of true testament to the NAHL’s “League of Opportunity” credo, Mara’s intense work ethic, and a demonstrated willingness to do whatever it takes to get the job done, helped him earn a call up to the Lone Star Brahmas last season. Mason has stayed up with Lone Star ever since. Already closing in on 100 games played in a Brahmas sweater, so far this season he has been 6 points in 8 games. The Brahmas will face off for the second of two games against the longtime rival Ice Rays this weekend down on the Texas Gulf Coast in Corpus Christi.

“This is big news for our team,” Lone Star Head Coach and General Manager Dan Wildfong explained after the team’s morning skate in Corpus. “These are the guys with the grit required to lead a hockey team, and these young men are going to make Brahma Land proud this season.”
