Brahmas Notebook: Dec 21-22 vs. Corpus Christi

Dec 20, 2018

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX — The Brahmas return home for the first time in three weeks after a rough road stretch. They’ll be looking to turn things around against the red-hot Corpus Christi IceRays this weekend.

Gameday Need-to-Know

The Brahmas have a festive weekend planned — the team will be decked out in Santa-themed specialty jersey both nights. Game-worn jerseys will be auctioned after Saturday night’s contest. The auction will take place on the ice.

Friday features an Ugly Sweater Contest and a schedule poster giveaway sponsored by Acme Brick. To participate in the Ugly Sweater Contest, find the Brahmas backdrop in the lobby and post a photo on Twitter or Instagram with the hashtag #BrahmasUglySweater. There will also be a thread on Facebook where you can post photos. Winners will receive free passes to Winter Wonderland!

Don’t forget to drop by the NYTEX Sports Shop for the Holiday Sale and receive 25% off of your purchase. Some exclusions apply.

Puck drop for both games is scheduled for 7:30 PM. Tickets are available for purchase online, by phone at 817-336-4423, or by visiting the Brahmas Box Office, open at noon on game days.

If you’re catching the game from afar, the video stream of the game will be available on HockeyTV.

Chick-Fil-A Spreading Cheer

Any guest who purchases an entree (Sandwich or Nuggets) at the Chick-Fil-A booth in the lobby will receive a digital offer card coupon to use on their next visit to the restaurant. Limit one coupon per entree!

There will be a limited amount of coupons so hurry to get yours while supplies last.

Season Head-to-Head

Thus far this season, the Brahmas and IceRays have each won three of six games, although the Brahmas hold the slight edge in points percentage with a 3-2-1 record to the IceRays’ 3-3-0 record.

Keep an eye on rookie forward Matt Guerra, who is the Brahmas’ leading scorer against the IceRays with eight points in six games. He has tallied two goals and six assists, and will be looking to add more this weekend.

Defenseman Blake Evennou will be another player to watch for the Brahmas, as he is coming off a four-point performance against the Shreveport Mudbugs and traditionally has played well against Corpus Christi (1-5–6 this season).

On the flip side, IceRays forward Blake Bennett has been a thorn in the Brahmas’ side, with two goals and two assists in five games and one of those goals coming in overtime.

Quick Notes

  • The IceRays are without German goaltender Florian Mnich, who is currently representing his country in the World Junior Championship Division 1A tournament. In lieu of Mnich, though, Brahmas fans might see a familiar face in Chad Veltri, who has most recently played with the Sioux Falls Stampede of the USHL.
  • Although some players are returning to full health, the Brahmas are likely still down more forwards than they’d like due to various injuries. Fortunately, the team won’t be down an entire line like they were in Shreveport on Saturday and Sunday. Forwards Frank Trazzera and Gabe Potyk are eligible to return from suspension.
  • Last weekend in the Brahmas’ only win, it was the defensemen who carried the offensive load, scoring three of four goals in regulation. That was perhaps understandable, considering how much fatigue the forwards were feeling, but the Brahmas will need more offense from them this weekend.
  • Corpus has been red-hot — they’re coming off back-to-back weekend sweeps of the Odessa Jackalopes.
