Brahmas – Mudbugs Preview

Feb 9, 2017

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX — After a lengthy stretch of games on the road, the Brahmas return to NYTEX Sports Centre for a two week homestand. The two games of the homestand are against the Shreveport Mudbugs, who currently sit in third place in the NAHL South Division.

While Shreveport and Lone Star split the first four games they played in the season series, the Brahmas have edged the Mudbugs in their last two meetings. The first of those was a 3-0 road shutout on New Year’s Eve, and the most recent was a 4-3 OT comeback win during which the Brahmas overcame a three goal deficit.

Both of those wins were a part of the Brahmas’ active 14 game winning streak, which is the longest in the NAHL this season.

The Mudbugs, on the other hand, will be looking to snap a five-game losing streak that began with that overtime loss to the Brahmas. Since that loss, they’ve suffered consecutive sweeps by Wichita Falls and Corpus Christi.

It may be a tall task to get back on track against the first place Brahmas.

Forwards Carson Kelley and Troy York have current five and six game point streaks respectively. Kelley has posted seven points (2-5–7) in his five-game streak. York has posted nine points (5-4–9) in six games. Along with Hunter Stanley, that line will be looking to continue their offensive success as the Brahmas take on the Mudbugs.

In addition to an offense that often features both primary and secondary scoring, the Brahmas have benefited from dependable goaltending. That’s been on display particularly during the win streak, and last weekend saw both Alec Calvaruso and Max Prawdzik keep up their good work as they picked up their 19th and fifth wins respectively. Prawdzik also posted his first NAHL shutout last Saturday.

Calvaruso is expected to start Friday.

After a January spent nearly entirely on the road, the Brahmas will be looking forward to playing on home ice in front of fans.

Friday night will feature a poster giveaway. The first 500 fans through the doors will receive a limited edition CareNow promotional poster. Saturday night will be Black Out the Shoebox night, so come on out and wear your black Brahmas gear! New black Brahmas t-shirts are available in the team shop for $12, so stop by before the game.

Both games will be broadcast on Hockey TV. Puck drop will be at 7:30 PM.
