Brahmas – Jackalopes Preview

Feb 16, 2017

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX — After having their win streak snapped with a sweep at the hands of Shreveport last weekend, the Brahmas will undoubtedly be motivated to get back on track against the Odessa Jackalopes, who visit NYTEX Sports Centre for the second time this season.

Likewise, the Jackalopes will be looking to do the same after being swept by the Corpus Christi IceRays in their own weekend series. However, unlike the Brahmas, they weren’t coming off of a 14-game winning streak. In fact, Odessa has struggled to string more than a few wins together — the last time they won back to back games was December 30th and 31st against the Amarillo Bulls.

With the Brahmas leading the season series against the Jackalopes 7-1-0, Odessa is in for a challenge as they come into Brahmaland Friday and Saturday night.

One thing that might play in Odessa’s favor is the fact that the Brahmas are currently going through a bit of an injury bug. In the series against Shreveport, the Brahmas saw Simon Loof, Drake Glover, Hunter Stanley, and Troy York all miss at least one game. Glover, Stanley, and York are three of the Brahmas’ top six scorers, and Loof trails only Zimmerman in defenseman scoring.

If the Brahmas are missing those faces again this weekend, they’ll need a strong performance from the remaining top scorers in the lineup. Luckily, Carson Kelley, Austin Kamer, and Peter Kessel are more than capable of carrying the banner, but depth scoring will also be a key component the Brahmas will be looking for this weekend.

Trevor Zenas will be playing his former team for the third time this season — the previous meetings came in a weekend series in January. (The Brahmas won both games.) With a goal and an assist in his past three games, Zenas will be looking to continue that success against the Jacks.

The Brahmas and Jackalopes will drop the puck at 7:30 on both Friday and Saturday night.

Friday’s game is Hat Giveaway Night! The first 500 fans through the door will receive a Brahmas hat courtesy of CareNow.

In addition, this weekend is your final chance to redeem vouchers for youth jerseys.

If you are unable to join us, catch the online broadcast on Hockey TV both evenings.
