NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TEXAS — The Lone Star Brahmas are proud to announce the hiring of Andrew Whiteside as the new assistant coach. A veteran in the NAHL, Whiteside comes to the Brahmas after serving as the Director of Scouting and an assistant coach for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights for the past four seasons, where he was in charge of recruiting, coaching the Knights defensemen, assisting in the planning & running of practices, penalty kill, and video analysis.
“Andrew is going to be a big part of our staff,” said head coach of the Brahmas Dan Wildfong. “He’s been in the NAHL for years and knows it really well. He’s one of the best recruiters in the league and we’re excited to have him with the Brahmas. It’s an honor to get a guy like him. We’re very lucky to have someone with his credentials to come to our team.”
Prior to being behind the bench for the Knights, Whiteside also spent time on the staff of the Kenai River Brown Bears as an assistant coach. In addition, he was selected by USA Hockey as a video coach for the gold medal-winning 2013 Boys Select U17 Five Nations Tournament in Trnava, Slovakia. In the summer, Whiteside serves on the coaching staff for USA Hockey’s Boys Select 16 Player Development Camp in Amherst, N.Y. – comprised of the top youth & junior hockey players in the nation.
“I am extremely excited to be part of the Brahmas organization,” said Whiteside. “Lone Star has a terrific reputation in not only the NAHL, but in all of junior hockey when it comes to building a winning culture and developing players onto the NCAA and professional levels of hockey. I’m looking forward to getting started.”
A native of Philadelphia, Pa., the coach attended Niagra University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Sports Management in 2015. On top of completing his studies, Whiteside was a four-year letter winner as a part of the NCAA Division I Men’s Hockey coaching staff.
