Brahmas Close Regular Season With 3-2 Win

Apr 3, 2017

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX — It’s only fitting for the winningest team in Brahmas history to end the regular season portion of their schedule with — what else — a win. The Brahmas defeated the Corpus Christi IceRays in their Sunday matinee to reach 90 points on the season.

One of Lone Star’s strengths as a team is how well-balanced they are, but on Sunday, it was largely the Brahmas’ top two lines carrying the day. All of the Brahmas’ top six scorers (all forwards) racked up at least one point, and Peter Kessel and Austin Kamer each registered a goal and an assist.

Troy York also scored — a beauty of a one-timer that beat Corpus Christi’s Tomáš Vomáčka cleanly and popped the water bottle off the net — and those three goals were enough on Sunday for the win.

Max Prawdzik was solid in net, and as usual, the team suppressed shots well and allowed just 23 on goal over 60 minutes. It was a typical performance from the Brahmas, who are second in the league in shots against.

It was also abundantly clear that the Brahmas were well-rested, having had eight days between games, while the IceRays were playing their third game in three days. Lone Star’s fresh legs gave them an advantage, and the NYTEX crowd was delighted with the team’s energy on Fan Appreciation Day.

Fan Appreciation Day was highlighted not only by the Brahmas’ win, but a Chuck-a-Puck cash pail hit (congratulations again to Brian and Carley!), an abundance of giveaways, and a postgame skate with the players.

Sunday’s game wasn’t the Brahmas at their very best (it’s entirely possible that the best is yet to come with this team), but they looked good in their last spin before the start of the playoffs.

Due to a quirk in the Brahmas’ schedule, they have a bye during the NAHL’s final weekend of play, so the next time they take the ice will be Game 1 of their South Division Semifinal. Their opponent isn’t set in stone just yet, but it looks more and more likely that the Wichita Falls Wildcats will be at NYTEX Sports Centre on April 14th to take on the the South Division champions.

Playoff t-shirts are available now at the NYTEX Sports Shop, and this year’s team trading card set will go on sale on April 14th.
