Brahmas 2 – Wildcats 1 on Saturday Night

Nov 9, 2013

Last night the Lone Star Brahmas hosted the visiting Wichita Falls Wildcats. A team that, on the previous night, took the Bulls for a long ride down a short ramp. The Brahmas were clawed up pretty bad, by a score of 9 to 1. This night, however, the Brahmas came in firing, throwing their weight around and looking to exact a bit of revenge against the Wildcats. Kellan Wassell, a former Wildcat, started the lamp lighting with a glorious breakaway goal against his former goaltender, David Zevnick. Unfortunately the lead was short lived as Wichita Falls tied it up just 15 seconds later on a goal by Evan Okeley.

Brahmas Defenseman Mitchell Mueller, who was on the receiving end of a cheap shot from the league leader in Major Penalty minutes Stan Sojka last night, took care of business right at seven minutes into the game. Mueller corralled Sojka at the side of the Brahmas net and fed him several rights in retribution. Mueller’s actions lit a fire under the team and they had his back as they killed off the resulting five minute Wildcats power play.

Play went back and forth for several minutes, until a whistle was blown and Alfred Johansson shot a puck, which brought about the Brahma rage. Inciting, a line throw down. This naturally resulted in several penalties, and gave the Brahmas a 5-on-3 opportunity. Alas, nothing came of it or any other power play for that matter, for either team. This brings us to the second period, where veteran and Alternate Captain, Donovan Gardiner, blocked a shot in his own zone, continued to take the puck up the left wing boards, and implanted in the net behind Mr. Zevnick. This would finish off the scoring, and just about the rest of the game. Jacob Nehama looked mesmerizing in net making 36 saves, and the Lone Star Brahmas came out with 2 big points.

The Brahmas will play host to the Topeka Road Runners next weekend. The last time the two teams met the split a pair of games in Topeka.
