Blake Evennou Commits to Ferris State

Nov 30, 2017

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX — Former Brahmas defenseman and Robertson Cup Champion Blake Evennou has announced his commitment to Ferris State University for the 2018-19 season. With Evennou’s commitment, that Robertson Cup team now has 18 players currently skating or committed to skate in the NCAA.

The 1998 defenseman came to the Brahmas from the Oakland Jr. Grizzlies program (which also produced forwards Julian Biondo and Chase Pletzke), where he scored at an unbelievable clip, putting up over a point per game in that T1EHL season (7-26–33).

From there, Evennou started his junior career with the Brahmas. He brought that offensive flair to the Lone Star blue line (4-12–16) and was an integral part of the championship-winning team.

“It was a fun and interesting experience playing with [Head Coach Dan Wildfong],” Evennou said. “He’s a hard coach and really takes care of all the little details, and that’s what I really liked a lot about playing for him, because taking care of all the small details leads to success.”

This season, Evennou has been putting up an impressive performance in the USHL with the Muskegon Lumberjacks, with seven points in 15 games so far this season.

“I like everything about Muskegon,” Evennou said, “And being only 3 hours from home is kind of nice so friends and family can come to the games.”

Muskegon has clearly been agreeing with Evennou, and Ferris State took notice. “After we had our home opening weekend, I was approached by the Ferris State assistant coach telling me he would like me to come on a visit,” Evennou said.

“When I visited Ferris State, I really loved everything about it from the start. They have great facilities and a great coaching staff. It’s a huge hockey school with a lot of clout and their style of play is a great fit for my game.”

Evennou will be heading to Ferris State University next fall, where he plans to study sports management. “I love sports so much that if I’m not playing them, I’d like to be around them in some other sort of way,” Evennou said.

Before he starts his college career, Evennou will focus on this current season with the Lumberjacks, this time with the comforting knowledge of where he’ll be playing next season: Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Michigan — just three hours away from his friends and family. Not a bad set-up.

Brahmas fans will do well to keep an eye on this dynamic defenseman as his career progresses, because it’s bound to be worth watching.
