Birdy Flies

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX – For the second consecutive night the Brahmas and Wildcats needed overtime to settle their differences, but this time, it was a positive outcome for the home crowd.

In a game filled with mirror opposite’s of Friday night’s contest, it was Wichita Falls who recorded the lone first period goal as the previous overtime hero Rourke Russell continued his hot streak.  Nikita Litviak and Garrett VanWhye received assists on the first and only Wildcats tally of the night.

Eerily similar to Friday’s game, the second period was dominated by two stud goaltenders.  Tonight it was Corbin Kaczperski who got the start in net for the Brahmas and the Wildcats opted to go back to their perfect Justin Kapelmaster.

Friday’s game saw Wichita Falls score shorthanded in the third period, and Saturday night, you guessed it, the Brahmas scored while a man down.  Cody Wickline was in the box on a hooking but that only allowed the speedy Alex Berardinelli to capitalize on the open ice.  The tally by “Birdy” knotted things up at one and led to an intense third period that eventually forced to the two sides to need more time.

In the overtime it was just over a minute into the frame when the very same Berardinelli got a motor full of steam and rushed into the Wichita Falls zone.  Guns blazing, #7 for the home team went blocker side low and sprung several feet into the air as he secured the victory for the Brahmas.

It was the first loss of the season in any form for Wichita Falls’ goalie Justin Kapelmaster, who recorded 15 saves on the Brahmas mere 17 shots.

The winning goalie, Corbin Kaczperski stopped 26 of 27 and improved his record to 3-1-1.

The Brahmas travel to Amarillo next weekend for Battle of the Cattle: Round Three.  Following Amarillo is an off weekend but after that the boys return home to take on those Bulls at NYTEX.  Tickets are available under the Tickets tab up top, over the phone by calling 817-336-4ICE or at the box office.
