Defenseman Jakub Melisko Joins Pro Team

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX — 2016-17 Brahmas defenseman and Robertson Cup champion Jakub Melisko has signed a professional contract with Mshk Žilina of the Slovak Extraliga.

Melisko was a significant part of the team’s Robertson Cup run last season, playing heavy minutes and contributing day in and day out. He recorded 4 goals and 15 assists during the regular season and went on to lead all Brahmas defensemen in points during the playoffs.

For Melisko, who has played the past five years away from his family, getting to play professional hockey nearer to home is something to look forward to. “I am excited to play senior hockey and  to be home and play hockey where my family and friends can see me this season,” Melisko said.

While he’s ready to get started with his professional career, Melisko looks back on his season with the Brahmas fondly.

“I have a lot of good memories from last season and I think I left the Brahmas as a better hockey player because we had a lot of really good games and I played with the best players in the NAHL,” Melisko said. “Hopefully this year’s team will have a great season like we had.”

Slovak Extraliga is the highest level of ice hockey in Slovakia, so Melisko will continue hone his craft beyond juniors.

“I want to say thank you to Brahmaland, coaches, my billet family and my teammates,” Melisko said. “It was a year I won’t forget.”
