The Lone Star Brahmas had a chance to move into second place in the NAHL South Division and extend their win streak to 10 in a row with a victory over the visiting Amarillo Bulls on Military Appreciation Night.
Pat Egan put a wrister past Anton Martinsson from the top of the far circle at 18:18 of the first. Roman Uchyn and Sebastian Vidmar had the helpers on the goal.
Thanks to an Amarillo cross checking penalty late in the first, Lone Star started the second period on a power play. They won the opening faceoff and put it into the far corner where Ludvig Larsson dug it out and sent it to Caleb Thompson at the blueline for a slap shot that Oskar Andren tipped in front and into the back of the net just 17 seconds into the period. At the 8:50 mark Hogan Davidson was nearing the end of one of his signature high energy shifts on which he had a couple of open ice hits when he and Riley Christensen dropped the gloves at the Brahmas’ blue line. Davidson landed a right early sending Christensen to the ice. Christensen jumped back to his feet and threw a couple punches at Davidson who was tied up by both linesmen. The lineys decided to let them go and turned Davidson loose. Christensen threw a couple that missed as did Davidson until Christensen connected with a left then Davidson came back with another right that dropped Christensen again and ended the bout. Egan netted his second of the night at 14:26 after Uchyn pulled the puck off the near half wall and fed it to Bud Madej at the point. Madej fired a shot on goal that Egan redirected. A kneeing call to Amarillo put the Brahmas back on the man advantage which they quickly cashed in. Andren got it started by feeding the puck to Hayden Hanson up top for a wrister that once again was redirected, this time by Larsson to close out the scoring in the middle frame.
Former Brahma AJ Duggan finally got the Bulls on the board at 2:01 of the final period off a three on one breakaway. Tristan Rostagno and Joey DiBenedetto picked up the assists. Brahmas’ netminder TJ Black did all he could on the play making the initial saves but Duggan deposited the rebound.
