Lone Star Brahmas Wrap Up Sweep Of Jackalopes

The Lone Star Brahmas won a rough and tumble affair against the Odessa Jackalopes on Friday night by a score of 5 – 2. The 150 penalty minutes handed out with just 31 seconds left in the contest resulted in multiple players wearing street clothes on Saturday when the puck was dropped.

It took the Brahmas only 1:55 to break the ice in their special Pink in the Rink sweaters.Quinn Carroll fired a shot from the point that Liam Stirtzinger tipped in front. Robin Johansson fought it off, but Stirtzinger jumped on his own rebound and put it over the sprawled netminder. Alexey Solovyev was credited with the secondary assist on the play. Hogan Davidson just missed the net less than a minute later ringing one off the right post.

Leo Lumm pulled the Jackalopes even on a drive by that snuck past Jake Kupsky’s left pad at 4:18 with the assists going to Derek Brown and Kenny Hausinger.

At 5:30, Razmuz Waxin-Engback crosschecked Davidson in the head as he drove the net resulting in a five minute major and an early shower for the Jackalopes forward. It took Lone Star only 16 seconds to cash in on the extended man advantage. They controlled the faceoff to Johansson’s right and Sebastian Vidmar cycled it behind the net where Cody Wickline slid it out the near side to Anton Santesson at the dot for a onetimer top shelf. A Brahmas’ turn over with just under four minutes left in the period turned Odessa Captain Chad Guderian loose on a lone man break. Kupsky came out to meet him, backed in and stoned him with the left pad to preserve the one goal lead.

After taking a 2 – 1 lead into the first intermission the Brahmas came out in the second and killed off the carry over of penalty kill. Then with just 2:17 gone in the middle frame, Santesson fed the puck to Oskar Andren below the goal line on the near side and he put it off Johansson’s backside and in.

Odessa got the goal back at 5:54 when the puck got to bouncing around in the slot with several players getting whacks at it. Kenny Hausinger got credit for the goal with Lumm and Brown registering the assists.

Lone Star’s special teams continued their torrid pace after going on the power play at the 10:05 mark. Again they scored almost immediately; Hayden Hanson sent the puck point to point for Solovyev. Solovyev moved it to Ludvig Larsson who ragged it into the middle and ripped it past Johansson glove side. Time of the goal was 10:40.

Odessa opened the third with a power play goal at 4:27 on a Lane Valimont shot from the point that eluded Kupsky stick side. Guderian and Alex Alger picked up the assists on the play.
